How to measure for a wig

We know how traumatic hair loss can be, so to avoid any potentially costly mistakes, successfully fitting for a wig is essential. Additionally, improper sizing may lead to wig irritation and fraying at the lace front. Here’s how to correctly measure your head for a wig in three simple steps.

Before You Begin

If you do not have complete hair loss and plan to wear your wig over your own biological hair, learn how to wrap your hair before measuring.

Start by measuring your circumference:

1. Using a fabric measuring tape, hold the measuring tape at the front hairline

2. Follow your hairline circumference to the base of your hairline at the nape

3. Continue your around the head, backing up to the front starting point

4. Write down this measurement

Next, find your ear-to-ear measurement:

1. Establish “top of head point” by measuring 7” back from the front hairline

2. Hold the measuring tape at your hairline at the top of your ear

3. Measuring across the top of your head point, continue to the hairline at the top of your opposite ear

4. Write down this measurement

Lastly, find your front-to-back measurement:

1. Hold the measuring tape at your front hairline

2. Follow a straight line down the centre of the head, ending at the hairline at the nape

2. Follow a straight line down from the centre of your head backwards, ending at the nape hairline.

4. Write down this measurement

Now, take these 3 measurements and compare them to this chart:
