Caring for your wig

Even wigs made from natural hair are not your natural hair, so they need to be handled carefully. It’s important to follow Jon Renau’s recommendations for taking care of your wig and there are some rules of general care that can help keep it in tip-top shape.

When possible, style your wig using your fingers and if you do use a brush and comb, use only those designed for wigs. Comb out any tangles by starting from the ends of the hair and working your way up to decrease shedding. Use styling products sparingly, as the more hairspray or gel you use, the more often you’ll need to wash your wig due to product buildup. Whether you’ve chosen a natural human hair wig or a synthetic wig, you’ll need to clean it regularly with optimum shampoo and conditioner. Wash your alternative hair wig at least once a month and more frequently if you wear it every day.

Jon Renau’s synthetic and human hair care products are designed specifically for alternative hair wigs and toppers. Formulated with ingredients to maintain and extend the life and appearance, particularly for synthetic hair as it is important to add moisture back into the fibre so it does not become brittle and break. Using the correct products will help extend the lifespan of your piece.
